Care, it's out there (expanded version)

Earlier this summer, I rode my bike to a busy, local park. I go to this park often. But there was something different about this day. I was about to enter the park, when I noticed a small, injured squirrel. Initially, I watched from a distance, thinking that the squirrel had been hit, become the latest "roadkill" victim. But then I saw that it was still moving. Every time a car would pass by, the squirrel would do a deadlift -- use its arms to drag its legs. So, I reacted by calling out for help. I asked park goers, random people, to help me find sticks and other objects to carry the squirrel to safety. Within a matter of minutes, with the help of strangers,    the squirrel was laid to rest under a nearby tree. I started to cry, partly because I knew the squirrel was dying in front of my eyes. And partly because people showed care for nature.

Sometimes you have to ask for help. And sometimes, you have to speak-up for nature.
