My Homemade Salad Dressing

I'm back! How was your week? 

I'm tired of buying overpriced salad dressing. So tonight, I decided to make some homemade dressing. Verdict: Tastes great and it's super easy to make!

Ingredients: Honey, oregano, mustard, garlic clove, oil, black pepper, vinegar, lemon juice.

Perfect End to the Long Weekend

I hope you had a safe, fun, and memorable long weekend. 

I spent the afternoon in the garden reading Bette Davis' (1987) This 'N That. For those of you unfamiliar with Ms. Davis, she was a film star at Warner Brothers during the 1930s and 40s. She is also one of my favorite actresses!

Cleaning the lawn furniture today involved me playing lifeguard to my friend the chipmunk. The little chipmunk kept following me around the yard, curious about my bucket of soapy water.

Question: What is your hidden talent?

My answer: I'm a good amateur masseuse. Friends often request me to give them back massages. Funny story -- I learned the art of massage from my dear, late dog. I would rub his back, and about 10 minutes later he would be asleep. I guess I had a calming effect on him!

Question: Do you believe "diamonds" are a symbol of love? 

My answer: I believe capitalism has made diamonds a symbol of love. But there is a long, bloody history associated with diamonds. These pretty, shiny rocks have created a lot of conflict and suffering in the world. For more information, watch the video below on blood diamonds.

Sunday tales (Mother's Day edition)

I spent the day baking and cooking with my mom. In the background, we watched a Hallmark original series called, The Way Home starring Andie MacDowell. If you haven't seen it, you might want to check it out. It caught my attention! The third season is scheduled to come out Winter 2025.

My homemade frozen yogurt

Today, I made a recipe I never made before: homemade frozen yogurt. It has all the benefits of ice cream, just healthier. There are few ingredients: Plain Greek yogurt, honey, vanilla extract. I also added some goodies for extra flavor: mangos and dark chocolate chunks. 

The taste test: simply wow. This frozen treat would also be great to serve alongside homemade pumpkin pie.

Mother's Day... around the corner.

In the Oxford English Dictionary, mother is defined as: "look after (someone) kindly and protectively". I truly believe you don't have to be a mother, or have offspring, to be motherly. 

Tonight, I would like to give a shout-out to my mother and a good friend (Shelley). A big thank you to these two women. Without their love and support and care, I wouldn't be here today.

My Homemade Orange Cake

Key ingredients: 3 oranges; walnuts; flour; canola oil. Top the cake off with 100% Canadian maple syrup.

I'm getting ready for bike riding season. Yesterday, I washed my running shoes! 

This is a great tip for anyone interested in giving their shoes a new lease on life. If your shoes are still in good shape, just dirty, try washing them with a bit of water and toothpaste. Your shoes will sparkle like new!

My washing toolkit: Bucket, water, old toothbrush, toothpaste, sunlight (for drying).
